"I have a mariner outboard and cant seem to find my serial number listed anywhere I am not sure if its the right cowl on it but its a 2cyl my guess from the cowl 20hp the serial #A701409 , any information would be very usefull I need coils and a few other goodies but just cant seem to find it"

"Nelson, that's your model and serial number. It's a Canadian built motor. The records from Mississauga were really bad, but I believe it's an 85 model.

The coils are the same regardless of horsepower (at least at that model year) all the way up to present (for standard coils) - you can find them on Ebay for around 25 bucks new - Merc tack's an extra 10 bucks on that price.

If you are checking out any online places you won't be able to plug in your serial (they don't take Canadian serials) - you can use A910971 which is an equivalent US serial number (motors identical)..."
