Mariner / Mercury carburetor compatibility.

Hello folks,

Anyone know if the Mercury Carburetor Set 6071A47 6071A53 1984-1990 50 60HP is compatible with a 1989 60 hp 3 cylinder Mariner outboard? I'm 90% sure it is, but would like to hear from others. The carburetor number on my part is listed as WM-1379-6071-C.

Thank you!
Jeff

Those look like 50hp carbs they will probably work with a 15% or so loss in power. What is the reason you need carbs?

I am mainly interested in the fuel bowl, but would keep the top carb assembly as a spare. There is a defect in my bowl causing fuel to seep out, even when using a new gasket. This leak is preventing the fuel system from pressurizing. There is a number on the bottom of the bowl, 20-66 and on the right side a 2. I'm not sure what the 2 represents, unless it's the revision. All of the bowls I see on ebay have either a 1 or a 4. I see my carburetor listed on ebay, but I'm not willing to pay $200 just to get a bowl.

Hi kimcrwbr1, yeah I wanted to find out if that listed Mercury part # was compatible with my 60 hp Mariner sn# range 0B122930 THRU 0D000749. It seems Mariner parts are a little more rare than Mercury.

I'm not sure if TOP 50 represents 50 hp and TOP 60 is for 60 hp. Looks like these parts were replaced several times over the service history.

OK, correct me if I'm wrong... I believe this is the set I need. These parts cross reference to use the same part numbers.

Thanks for the assistance kimcrwbr1. Fuel systems in general are pressurized. I cleaned and rebuilt the carbs, changing the floats, needle, seat, gaskets, etc. hoping to fix my high speed issue. The high speed jets are not kicking in and my motor is only running at half power. After I run the motor for a few minutes and check the primer bulb, it's not hard, which indicates a problem. My thought was the leak from the bowl was sucking air. Regardless, it needs to be addressed. If this doesn't fix the problem, I'm not sure what to check next.

I went ahead and ordered a throw-away carb for $39 to see how it differs from mine. The 6071A59 and 6071A56 look to be the mercury part numbers I need. I considered swapping the carburetor assembly if my high speed jets fail to kick in after this rebuild.

I'll be sure to look for the #.96 stamp on the jets.

After rebuilding the carbs, getting a solid seal on the bowl gasket and changing a toasted spark plug, I'm back in business. The motor ran today like it did in 1989. :)

kimcrwbr1, thank you for taking the time to assist with my issue.
