Hi can someone help me please.

Hi can someone help me please. I am trying to find the year of my Mariner Engine its a 40hp 6E9 Serial Number L30131C. Thanks

Graham thanks for your very p

Graham thanks for your very prompt reply when I asked for the year of my Mariner 40HP 6E9 Serial NO. L301316 I would like to know how I go about ordering a Manual as I live in Scotland UK. You stated that this engine was a 1982 Yamaha built Mariner I have been trying the engine out in a large tub of water and engine runs ok and the coolant for the engine which is just below the manifold was working fine for a while and the engine was ticking over fine with the water circulating through the engine but when I tried it the next day and the water was not getting through the engine the rubber pipe to the outlet is clear do you think this could be a fault with the impeller and is this a common fault with this engine if so where can I get spares for them would appreciate your help

"From what I've read here,

"From what I've read here, not all Merc / Yammi parts are compatible.

Impellor is first place to start looking. Make sure all water ports are clear and telltale too. Check lower case lube too, change if uncertain. Impellor no longer that 2 years between changes."

Benjamin thanks for your reply

Benjamin thanks for your reply it is most helpful but I am a complete novice with outboard motors as this is my first venture and as I stated having trouble with the water circulating through the engine. Water ports on the leg of the engine are free so I suspect impeller but you mention telltale is this the outlet from the top of the engine.

"Charlie, you can get a Seloc&

"Charlie, you can get a Seloc's manual for 1 and 2 cylinder "mariners" (1977-1989) internationally from many sources on-line, including this site.

In the case of your particular model it is nothing more than a 100% Yamaha motor simply painted with the Mariner colours and decals.

Both Merc and Yami will have parts for it unless the part itself has been discontinued."

"Hi, Can anyone tell me some m

"Hi, Can anyone tell me some more about the Mariner 40 engine that I have on a new (used) boat I've just bought? Its numbers are 40 ELO 6E9 L, 432078. I thought the O stood for Oil Injected, but it has no oil tank, and the seller told me it needs 50 to 1 mix, although the engine cover says "Oil Injection" Also, what year would this be, and what's the cheapest way to get hold of a pump impeller if I should need one? Thanks."

"Simon, that's a 1989 Yama

"Simon, that's a 1989 Yamaha built Mariner.

The "O" did stand for oil injection, but was for the (inline) Autoblend system.

Someone did this motor a favour by disconnecting it and throwing it far enough away that it couldn't spontaneously re-connect.

Autoblend killed alot of motors - be grateful it's 50:1

Aftermarket suppliers never really jumped onboard with parts for this motor. For an impeller you will have to find a Merc dealer - take your serial with you and they should be able to hook you up..."

"Hi Graham, I'm back for m

"Hi Graham, I'm back for more help.

The ignition / start switch on my boat is in a disastrous location and it doesn't always turn properly, so I want to move and replace it. Could I replace the old Mariner switch with a simple toggle switch (for power on), a pushbutton (for start) and a stop switch (possibly in series with a killcord connector)
If so can you tell me the function of the wires from the engine and their colours?

regards

Simon"

"Simon, sorry for the delay ge

"Simon, sorry for the delay getting back to you. Been doing alot of digging and I do NOT have a wiring diagram for the harness.

I have ignition diagrams for under the hood etc and even a look through the Selocs manual, and no diagram for the wiring up to the control box.

Sorry, I don't have factory manuals on the Yami/Mariners - never saw enough of them to make it worthwhile buying.

Suggest you post a new thread asking for them - I'm sure someone out there must have what you are after."
