Mariner bottom leg removal and year

"have just gotten a 20 mariner

"have just gotten a 20 mariner Serial #0c258117, was wondering about the year. Think i am having water pump problems because none coming out telltale. unbolted bottom end but can't remove because shifting linkage is there. is there a trick or do I have to take more off.

Under the carburetor on the port side. It will be obvious if you look there and try to move the shift lever.
