"I have a Mariner 9.9M 682C model (1982) which has been giving me problems since I bought it earlier this spring. I've rebuilt the carb and replaced the plugs and it will run great for a while but will foul the lower (#2) plug after a little use. Sometimes it will last a couple hours and sometimes as little as 30 minutes before the plug fouls. I have to change the plug to get it running again. The lake that I frequent is an idle speed only lake, and I have yet to be able to take my boat anywhere else to run it at higher speeds.
My Clymer manual says to replace the accelerator cam, main nozzle, and main jet if constant fouling of the #2 plug develops. I have ordered these parts and waiting for them to arrive. The main jet and nozzle didn't come in the carb rebuild kit.
If this doesn't take care of the problem, I'm at a loss and don't know what my next step is. Any suggestions or advice?"
