Mariner 9.9 no spark.

91 Mariner 9.9 serial 0D052606. Was idling out the other day and she just died and wouldn't start back up.

It doesn't have spark on 1 plug. Thought it was the ignition coil, put a known good coil on and still no spark to that side. Unhooked black/yellow kill switch wire and still no spark. What should I check next?

Thanks

Get a manual, do the ohm's tests on the stator and trigger and all wiring between each and the coils - if they check out you may have toasted the switchbox.

Every manual has a good step by step troubleshooting procedure for the ignition system.

My money would be on a bad wire or the switchbox - on this model the trigger is shared between the two cylinders so if it's toast you lose spark on both - likewise if the stator is bad you would "likely" lose spark on both, but the test takes a few seconds, so worth doing..

+1 on what galamb said!! I just went through same symptoms with my outboard!! My stator, trigger, and coils tested fine! Switchbox on its way!! Good luck!! Good diagnosing seems to take forever but it pays off!!

Thanks guys. My stator, coils and trigger all tested ok. Got new switch box installed this afternoon, fired up first pull!!
