Engine given to my son as "not working properly",...no such thing....my son appreciates a challenge!! Engine running & starting OK (not for long I might add) but no cooling. Impeller checked ok, thermostst removed still no cooling, cleaned telltale hole salt corrosion indicated, completely stripped down engine & powerhead, looked very similar to Cheshire Salt mine galleries inside with SEVERE corrosion to waterways, steam cleaned all salt deposits from waterways and inside powerhead and applied JB Weld plastic metal to all visible "holes" / large pitted areas. Drilled out all head & exhaust casing broken bolts (16 broken in total, nightmare!! ) and recut threads & inserted threadbar to act as studs not bolts. Problem now ...does any body know how to "seal" the remaining slightly corroded areas of aluminium inside powerhead to prevent future attack from saltwater after reconstruction. I have considered painting / spraying aluminium paint, thin fibreglass resin or whatever to waterways or am I just "fighting the inevitable" to prevent future attack! Views, opinions, suggestions, help & comments will be greatly appreciated.
