I have a 80hp Mariner engine o

I have a 80hp Mariner engine on my 1980 pontoon boat.. Today I noticed there was gas dripping out of bottom of engine when I was squeezing the primer bulb and couldn't build any pressure in bulb to start engine.. I took covers off engine and couldn't trace where the leak was coming from.. Any ideas where to start?

"sounds like the needle and se

"sounds like the needle and seats are not needle and seating. when you are priming and you get the leak the fuel is going right through the carb, most likely comming out of the main emulsion tube and bowl vent. if the needle and seat were good then the bulb would get firm like your used to. might be something stuck in the seats, or the carb is soo gummed up that the float is stuck. either way you are going to need to remove the carbs to inspect and give a good cleaning to."

"Yep, could be a stuck float v

"Yep, could be a stuck float valve, but I would even back up further. Could be the fitting right at the engine where the gas line connects, any filters you have between the fitting and the carbs or even any of the fuel lines between that, the fuel pump and the carbs themself.

So take the hood off and use a flashlight if necessary (lighted match is a bad idea)
- then pump up the bulb and see where the gas is coming from while it's dripping..."

"I took the hood off and trace

"I took the hood off and traced lines up to carb, no leak up to that point.. Will check lines between carbs.. Is there a standard size fuel line, I am about an hour and a half from boat and would like to take some with me .. Thanks for all your help, as you can tell I am a fairly new boat owner.."

My Mariner was leaking right a

My Mariner was leaking right at the fuel pump due to a faulty o-ring. Take the cover off. On the right side of the engine (same side your main fuel pick up is) you should see the fuel pump. Squeeze the bulb and see if fuel is leaking there. When mine was leaking you couldn't build any pressure in the fuel line either.

"5/16, would be a good guess.

"5/16, would be a good guess. Sounds more like the carb float was stuck as mentioned earlier. I would take the falsh light, pump the bulb and look down the carbs. Its going to run like crap if it does start untill the float settles. If the gas went bad in the carb causing this it would be wise to remove and clean all carbs."
