Can anyone help me, I have just brought a Mariner 80 power trim s/n 6393313 can anyone tell me what year it is and how good are they.

"Mark, it's a 1983 model, that last year Merc produced a 4 cylinder 80 horse.

For it's year of production it had good carbs, and outstanding ignition (the thunderbolt 4, 99% of the ignition system is still available from Merc today) - all round it stared life as a pretty decent motor.

But how was it cared for? the cheapest Hyundai model that is maintained according to it's sevice schedule will outlive a Porche 911 that has never seen an oil change - the motor is 27 model years old - mistreatment can turn the best product into scrap in much less time than that..."
