Mariner 8 runs only when coke is on

Hello all,
My Mariner 8 runs only when choke is on I cleaned the curb, new gas (the engine was in storage for 3-4 years)
any suggestions please.

How long did you soak the carb? Three to four years is a long time; varnish gets hard over time and needs time to soak.

I didn't soak the carb I only cleaned it with carb cleaner. I cleaned it again today but no changes. What do I soak it in?

Carburetor needs to be taken apart and each jet / passage must be verified clean.

I like to use lacquer thinner (a strong solvent) for only the metal parts . I use a wide mouth metal container w/lid. I leave it outside overnight. New, all metal paint cans w/lids can be boughtat a paint supply store around here. The solvent can be saved and used again.

How to verify thaq all passages and jets are clean?

Lacquer thinner is DANGEROUS! Wear eye and breathing protection and only use lacquer thinner outdoors--EXTREMELY VOLATILE!
I use compressed air. Air will exit all of the passages if open.

Soaked the carb in Lacquer thinner for 4 hours and fired up from the first pull. Will take it for a ride tomorrow and see
how it behaves in the water.

Great! Lacquer thinner is some good cleaner. No second guessing if it was cleaned right when it fires right up.
