Mariner 8 Lower Unit Removal

Find where the shift rod protrudes from the cowl area and attaches to the shift rod...should be a simple clip device holding it together.

Thanks for the quick response, but it doesn't appear to be that simple. It looks like you have to turn the linkage 180 degrees and then the bent portion could be removed. That, or I am missing something.

Look near the carburetor ( port side ) you flip the linkage over and pull it out.-------------Remove the reverse lock bracket on the rod ( halfway down ) and the 3 bolts at the bottom and off it comes.--------Did one 2 days ago !

I get the flipping of the linkage but it doesn't appear to flip easily. It is a very old Mariner (1980 or less), it has four bolts holding on the lower unit. And where is the reverse lock bracket. Is that the one near the carburetor or on the shaft once the lower unit has been dropped?

Sorry I was thinking one of the newer models.------mercruiserparts.com--------------Find the pictures of all the parts using your model /serial #
