"Greetings from sunny South Africa!!

I'm looking for some information for my Mariner 60 E, the serial number is 6FO 304009. The pee hole did not have a decent amount of water coming out so I removed the "leg" and found the impeller was worn. I then found out that Mariner motors aren't sold in SA anymore but my model was made by Yamaha, I got the impeller and bowl from the Yamaha agent and replaced it. Problem solved, or so I thought? With the earmuffs on the water comes out the pee hole but I reckon this is partly due to the pressure from the hose pipe. In the river it just trickles out? Do these motors have a thermostat and where abouts is it?

Do any of you learned chaps have more info on this motor, age, CC's etc. User manuals are a bit hard to come by and the $ to Rand exchange rate prohibits me from buying a manual, are eBooks available?

Thanks again
Mitch"

"Hi Mitchel, the thermostat is located under a cover at the top rear of the cylinder head. See part #33 here:

According to the serial no, that should be a 1982 model, Made in Japan as you mentioned. You can try to surf around the downloads here to see if you can find a suitable manual for your motor:

"Thanks for the help Tom, I took the thermostat out and it was stuck closed. The boat has not been used much which I reckon is the reason for the sticky thermostat. Going to order a new thermostat tomorrow."

"Cool! I wonder if you might be able to just clean the old one in case the stickiness is caused by some solidified gunk from the long storage..? But anyway, glad to hear you found the source of the problem. Happy boating!"

"I did clean it and tested it

"I did clean it and tested it in the kettle
It works, if the new one is exhorbitantly priced then I will stick the old one back in. Just got to make up a gasket for the housing and then I can test it on the weekend."

"Cleaned up the thermostat, ma

"Cleaned up the thermostat, made a gasket. Tested it in the river yesterday and works like it should, thanks for the help."
