"Hi, I have a 2006 Mariner 60

"Hi, I have a 2006 Mariner 60 3 cylinder 2 stroke, I have just fitted a new set of NGK BPZ8H-N-10 (the same as originally fitted) plug gap set at 1.0mm. The engine starts ok from cold, maybe 3 - 4 winds, I then shoot out 5 miles at 18 - 20 knots, which takes roughly 15 - 20 mins and anchor up and do a bit of fishing for an hour or so. However when I try to start up again the Mariner is murder to get going, winding 20 times or more, and you guessed it...end up flooing it, so I remove spark plugs, dry them off..leave a while and only then does it smoke its way back to life. This is know getting dangerous as I have had to get back quick in the recent channel squals! Please can anyone help! I was thinking maybe my next move is to clean carb and petrol filters? I am new on here so I apploigise if this is in the wrong place."

"sounds like you have a carb f

"sounds like you have a carb flooding, try pumping the fuel bulb and look down carbs with engine off, any fuel dripping is bad. Also are you tilting engine up when anchored, if so pump bulb when tilted back down to refill carbs"

"Thanks for that, I will certa

"Thanks for that, I will certainly give that a go.
I did notice yesterday when I was squeezing the bulb a colourful pattern on the surface of the sea, obviously petrol! would you advise removing the carb and looking for a blockage at the filter?"

"if you see gas on the water w

"if you see gas on the water when squeezing the bulb then fuel is pooring out of carb. That means stuck float or worn/dirty needle and seat. Time to remove and clean carbs and set floats.
Try looking down carbs while pumping the fuel bulb. Cleaning filters is a good idea but won't help the existing problem. Bet you have 1 carb flooding engine. Also, with 3 carbs, if 1 float sticks shut it means that cyl doesn't get fuel or OIL. Best to keep the fuel system happy"

"Alrighty, time to sort those

"Alrighty, time to sort those carbs out, thanks for your help JB, I will let you know how it goes in the near future, all the best Kevin."

"Ok then, I have now had those

"Ok then, I have now had those carbs off, blown through all holes checked all floats, inlet needle valves and inlet/outlet pipes, the result is... the engine now runs like a well oiled sewing maching, all leaks from carb No3 has stopped,
This engine now starts 1st time even after being run hard and left for 30mins, this is a great result and the engine seems truly happy again.
I did get a tip from one of the old fishermen down at the mooring, he said sometimes if the float sticks you can get away with giving the carbs a sharp tap with a piece of hard wood, obviously not too heavy handed.
Thanks for your help on this one JB
I hope this is the last of the problems I will have in this area. Is there anything that can be done to stop floats & valves sticking in the future}?"
