mariner 50 overheating

Hi Guys,
have a Mariner 50 elec /tilt/start new impeller kit, new thermostat, with flush muffs all runs ok,, put engine in tank, after short time idling
telltale gets b....dy HOT(could make tea) and over heating alarm sounds engine gets very hot around cylinders..
any ideas would help Ps no water coming out of upper exhaust outlet( i thought these were wet exhaust)??????engine flushed every time after sea runs

You are going to have to take it back apart and see whats going on. Perhaps the woodruff key fell out when re-assembling.

I'd toss that thermostat out. I know Sir Graham disagrees, but I've seen to many cooked motors with those things.

Many thanks guys, have got the prob sorted.. salt blockage in impller tube. once again many thanks...will still stay on board with the forums take care Phil-p
