"i have a 40hp ml 1989 have replaced impellar and rebuilt head as previous owner did not look after it every orafice was clogged up with sea salt and there is slight damage to a piston.my question is what is the best way to start it,as since the rebuild the compression is great and it has fired for 2 seconds. also it is a pull start but can it be converted to electric start as i have trouble getting it started.maybe i am just weak."

"You have to run it mixed at 2

"You have to run it mixed at 25:1 for the first 10 hours or so. And during that time the speed should be varied (don't just let it idle), with nothing more than short bursts at full throttle.

Any motor can be converted to electric if you want to spend the money.

A 40 horse Merc or Merc/Mariner can be made "electric" for maybe 400 bucks or so - a Yami Mariner could cost over a grand if you can even find all the parts.

So depends what exactly you have, how much you are willing to spend and if you can find what you need..."
