Hello everyone. I am having trouble finding the year of my engine.
40E
6E9 L 412956
This is the number on the tag.
Any help would be appreciated.

It's a series of automated serial number searches from different sites to help locate that info...That mentioned, sometimes over the years it's been right and other times found to be not 100% accurate as there are sometimes different models and letters as you will see in the following chart below... In looking it over again, the parts link I posted above might not be the exact correct one being it has the C in it.

Sometimes you may have to compare what your engine has on it vs what you tend to see in the parts catalog from this website (M:E.com) linked here for you to compare against down in the 40_HP category range vs serail numbers too,

Do you see any other info on your ID plate? because @boscoe tends to have another reliable source to help judge by so hopefully he'd be able to chime in as well so be sure to check back in.

Shows up as made by Yamaha as a 1984 model year motor. Equivalent of a Yamaha 40SN, 40LN, 40ESN or 40ELN.
