I have a 40hp mariner model# 6e9 L 407519 made in japan would like to find out the year it was made. In addition i have no spark to plugs is there a safety cutoff on this engine?

Are you 100% sure of the numbers? 6e9 and L make sense however I can't find a listing for a 407519 in any range. Is it electric start or manual, is it oil injected or does it run on pre-mixed fuel?

Yes wyn those are the correct numbers. Its electric and pull start was told its a 1988 40c twin carb and its premix. After some searching found that infact it is a 1988. Budgie you are 100% correct! Found it yesterday and i now have spark! Now to get some new plugs fresh fuel and get it fired up! THANKS ALOT!

These are tough little engines. You can easily flush out the carb float bowls by removing the cast air silencer (two pieces) from the front of the carbs, then you can loosen carb drain screws and use primer bulb to pump through fresh fuel and purge the bowls of any nasty gunk.
They are very simple carbs and it's rare for them to gum up for any length of time after long storage, usually a purge as I describe above and 5 minutes of running and they're good to go.
Factory says 100 to 1 premix but 50 to 1 works just fine, especially if you run flat out a lot.
