Is this motor considering be a Yamaha/Mariner 40C.? I’m looking for year of manufacture and need an impeller/water pump kit. Thanks.
 
Looks to be a 40FE model. Circa 1988.

If you are in the US the equivalent would be a 40XX or 40XXXX of some flavor.

Using your serial number in a parts search suggests your model number to be 7040716 making the engine year to 1986 (ELO) as far as Merc was concerned.

Parts Group:40 HP MARINER: Options: Electric start, long shaft (20”/508mm) driveshaft housing. Remote control steering.
Oil injection standard.
Model style: ELO

Thanks for your help. I found the serial number to be an auto-blend too. I can confirm it is not an auto-blend since it doesn’t have an oil tank.

I can see the original poster didn't resolve his issue, which is the same one I have - two years after this post, I just bought a sixteen-foot runabout equipped with a Mariner 40EL 6E9 L (long shaft) and a six-digit serial number (416281). Claude.ai can't find the exact model year, citing "conflicting public serial number lists," and nothing comes up for that serial number when I search the official Mariner shop manual page, marineengine.com, and crowleymarine.com. I guess I'll keep poking around this forum and see if anyone knows what this mystery engine is and how to make sure I'm ordering the right parts. Claude.ai did tell me it's basically a Yamaha engine re-branded "Mariner" so I'll check that out, too.
