I have a Mariner 40EL 6E9 416986, I believe it is a 1985, please correct me if I am wrong. I recently purchased a 14' Mkee Craft with this motor on it and the steering they have set up is a nightmare. The cable is too long and the steering link arm is from a motor of un-known size. I am curious where I could find the correct steering arm. I have the cable measurements figured out but I have scoured the net for the arm and can not locate it. I would really appreciate any help. (i tried iboats and they had 60hp and up) I found a 1984 yamaha steering arm on ebay, would this interchange? Right now I can only turn the boat right, I get about 1/4 turn to the left. Thanks again,

Cory

As your Mariner is a Yamaha painted in the Mariner colours, the steering arm should work, and yes it is '85.Have you tried turning the arm that you have ass about face?

yes I did and to no avail I still had no turning to the left :/ I appreciate your response. I will try and search for the same year yamaha steering link arm and see if that gives me any better results.

Those arms are fairly standard .A longer one from a Mercury, Johnson , Evinrude may work as well.--------Most shops have those laying around.-------Or depending on your skill level you could measure and determine what length you need.----Then cut the arm and weld in a piece of pipe or what ever to get what you need.

how do I know what length I need it to be? The one that is on there is approx 11" which seems to be the standard for alot of the links out there. Thanks Again.

Remove the arm at the motor -------turn the motor ( fully to the left and fully to the right )------------do the measuring---------When you are done here you might say ---------" that was simple "

Just a thought. At the helm/wheel,remove the wheel, find the center spot, same number of turn right and left, then try hooking up the arm again
