"Hi ya folks, we have just brought a Marine 40hp long shaft outboard engine on a tiller. The engine ran perfect for the preious owner who had it serviced regular. When we brought it we ran it up out of the water, and it started 1st pull of the cord. So we mounted it to our fishing boat and launched her into the sea. The engine fired up straight away although stuck on full revs for a short while then it cut out then would not start. We thought the cables to the throttle may have not been alined properly so we gave it neck and moored it up. Two weeks later we went out to the boat and started to investgate the problem. We took the main throttle cables of and the forward & reverse cables of, and checked that fuel was pumping up to the carbs. Tryed to pull it and still nothing? We then pulled out the spark plugs, both of which seamed fine a little black maybe. Whilst they were out and connected to the plug lead we pulled it to see if there was a spark. It was very hard to say becouse of the engine & boat rocking but im prity sure they both sparked. We put them back in and still nothing? I wondered if there was a cut off switch on the engine or if something has blown maybe? It is very disapointing and we do not know where to turn. Please help!
