Mariner 40 magnum

I just purchased a boat that came with a mariner 40 magnum and i am trying to determine what year engine is. The tag on mount is faded and has void showing thru like sticker is coming off. Where else might the serial number or model number be. Any help would be great

Look on the engine it should be stamped on a freeze plug and visible .. Take cover off look at bottom of cylinder on the rt side of engine look for number stamping should be a letter first then numbers or 2 otters then numbers Use a small high power flashlight ... Try that
