Mariner 40 hp alarm

I am looking at a boat with a 1994 Mariner 40hp ELPTO. The boat originally had a 95 Mercury 50hp (both 2 strokes). The owner did a motor swap. Put the 50 on his new skiff, took the 40 from the skiff and put it on the boat that I am wanting to purchase. When the 40 was on the skiff there were no issues. Since the swap, when you turn the key (aux. position)on the 40, an alarm comes on and stays on until the motor is cranked. There is no running issues that we can tell. Now,the 50 that he put on the skiff as no issues what so ever. All harnesses and shifters were left on each boat as it should be plug and play. My concern is the alarm. It's not just a beep. Any help is appreciated

Ok..... So today. Oil sensors were disconnected.... When turning the key on, the same alarm went off. We then disconnected the hose from the oil unit, turned the motor over, unit is send oil. The alarm is now staying on while running and alternating from a constant to beeping. Put it on the water today and the motor pushes the boat great. What do I need to do next to trouble shoot this alarm issue. I have quite a few views but no replies. If there is another page that can be recommended please let me know. Thank you.

You could simply disconnect that noisy thing and go boating! We happily went without them for decades.

Yep. disconnected everything. I went ahead and bought the boat. As soon as it thaws out, It will be disconnected. I have been a OMC guy my whole life. This is my first merc/mariner. Going to go through it all. Can't wait. I do have a stupid question though. Are the carb kits for the mariner the same for the merc? Thanks guys.

If both motors have the same part numbers.

Note: This is a simple way to determine if thongs can be swapped: Find the part number(s) for YOUR motor, then the one you want to use parts from and compare. (If the number is off in any way the part may not be similar, including the "-A #" at the end of some part numbers.) This site works great for doing this.
