"Inquired re. purchase of said motor posted for sail in area. Seller advise that motor is either 1989 or 1998 & supply following serial # which may not be complete: 6E9L 306986. He is not original owner & selling same with a second motor similar for parts. Indicate that he ran motor last year on 18' fgls/wood & it was on boat in salt water all summer; also ran (hopefully on muffs) last week for prospective buyer. Asking is $1000 incl. tiller & remote.

Qn. Year of motor? any comments on reliability, things to look for.
Seller is ~ 500 km distant & I cannot/ have not seen to test for compression, contamination lower end etc. I'm assuming that impellor etc. never changed.
If you can id. year & model, are parts available?

I am looking to try this as replacement for 25 on V16 for operation in s/w all seasons.

"Pierre, that is a 1985 Yamaha built "C" model Mariner.

It was well built at the time but has been discontinued for a number of years.

There is not a huge demand for motors in this horsepower range and the quoted price seems a little high to me.

If the motor is in near perfect condition I would expect it to sell for 600-700 dollars

This being an (almost) 25 year old motor that has lived it's life in salt would cause me to lower the expected price into the 400 dollar range..."
