"Hi, I have recently bought a 30hp 2005 2 stroke mariner motor. Under full throttle the motor is deafening. It is the noisiest motor I have ever owned. Can some one tell me if this is normal for mariners, and most of all is there something I can do to quieten it down.
Also the forward shift throttle is staying in gear, when the motor is out of gear. Do I adjust the cables in the throttle handle or do I adjust the cable back on the motor lever.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as Im sure I will go deaf with this noisy motor.
Kind regards,
Grizz"

Adjust at the engine. Could the noise be a connecting rod or piston? These engines are no louder than any other 2 stroke. An engine can still run pretty good with above mentioned problems. Try gently rocking the flywheel a few degrees back and forth. If there is too much play maybe thats the direction we need to look.

"Hi Timothy, thanks for your reply. The fly wheel moves about 1 -2 inches by hand, not loose but firm when turning. The motor sounds more like a V8, not a rattle sound, if this helps. Motor seems to run fine, but is just realy loud.

Regards, Grizz"
