I just bought a 15' flatbo

I just bought a 15' flatbottom that came with two Mariner 30E outboards (one on the boat one spare). They both say made in Japan so I assume they were made by Yamaha but I cant figure out the year...Ser #s are 689 410922 and 689 409221. No letters in between. I can't find reference to them online. Can anyone help identify the year model so I can get the proper manual.

"Eric, one is a 1983 model &#4

"Eric, one is a 1983 model (lower serial) and the other an 84 - and yes, both built by Yamaha for Merc - a carbon copy of Yamaha's own model 30AE built between 75 and 81.

Grab a Seloc's manual for "Mariner Outboards - 1&2 cylinder - 1977-1989" - probably the best in the aftermarket for these particular motors."

Thanks much Graham. Any intel

Thanks much Graham. Any intel on motor? Good/bad? I've had it out on the lake and it runs like a top. The spare I have does not have the lower unit so I will try and find one.

Thanks again

Eric

"They were well built, well en

"They were well built, well engineered motors, and the 30 Mariners were in production at exactly the same time that Yami was selling them with their own paint/decals - not the usual case with Mariners (which were mostly based on discontinued models).

That means that those models in particular were still "modern technology" the day they were built.

The 30 never achieved the popularity that the 40 "C" model did in North America so parts from the used part market or aftermarket companies maybe difficult to find or non-existant, but Merc still stocks parts and possibly Yamaha as well..."
