I have recently purchased a boat which came with a 2HP OUTBOARD. while i was running it i noticed it was getting abnormaly hot so i immediately shut it off, and used my trolling motor to get to shore. I pulled apart the gearbox, and as I suspected the rubber impeller was trashed. My question is, how do I know water is getting to the motor and cooling it when i get it replaced? I want to make sure the pieces are not blocking the passages witout tearing the whole motor apart. Also what is the recommended oil and mixture ratio for the gas, and what kind of oil shoul I use in the gearbox? thank you very much

Blow compressed air backwards from the power head with the lower unit off. Then rig up a hose and blow water UP the power head.

Use 50:1 oil mixed 5:1.

I use Walmart 85W115 gear oil in the blue bottle.

ok so where does this power head exit? Ive heard there is supposed to be a stream of water that runs out of the engine when running but i have no clue where this would be, the on;y possible place i have found is a plastic bumper looking thing on the back which has a whole in the bottom of it. Also are there any full engine diagrams other than the ones you can order parts from? just thinking they might help me.
