Mariner 20e 6a9 wiring help

Hi there,

Can anybody please help with a wiring diagram/or just guidance for an old Mariner 20e 20hp 2 Stroke? It’s a 6A9 model I think something like 1982? Not 100% sure of the year. I believe these motors were actually built by Yamaha.

It didn’t have the controls etc when it was bought, so there is just a plug (7 pin).

I am am hoping to connect up the electric starter motor & a kill switch if possible, both of which I’ll need to buy. I guess I’d need to cut the plug off and figure out which wire is which! Not sure what else runs through the plug?!

Any advice greatly appreciated!!
 
Sorry when I said no controls, I meant just start/stop controls.

I have connected a throttle lever & steering, it is just the key start needed/kill switch needed.

I have seen Yamaha main harnesses & Key panels available but they are between £250-£300 for the pair, and I was hoping that it was possible to make one much cheaper possibly?
 
Is there a local marina or mercury dealer around you. They may have a wiring harness kicking around. Because if you cut off that plug and you want to sell that engine it would have to be rewired. I will check on Monday for wiring diagram at work. Pm me to remind me on Monday

I’ve managed to order a Key switch, I think you’re right it might be better to bite the bullet and order a main harness to save cutting plugs.

The engine details are:

Mariner 20e 6A9 L 550502 or might be 559502 (the 3rd digit is hard to see!!)

Be great if you had a wiring diagram available :D
