"Charlie, I think you have a 1984 model there. It has an Aussie serial so I'm only accurate within a year or two.

Regardless, the ignition parts stayed the same on the 20 horse for over 20 years and it will use Merc's standard coil (part number 339-832757A4) which lists for about 40 bucks or so at a Merc dealer. (if you are talking about the coil that feeds one of the sparkplugs).

Other aftermarket coils (CDI etc) work just as well and usually go for about 30 bucks.

Your particular model is a Mercury/Mariner as opposed to the slightly more prolific Yamaha/Mariners that are out there. So essentially you have a Merc painted up like a Mariner.."
