"Just bought this and took it in to get tested. Compression was 110-115 on all three cylinders. They gave it a tune up. Is this motor Yamaha made and if so is it any good? Seems to run fine!

Thanks, Daman"

"No, that's a Mercury Mari

"No, that's a Mercury Mariner which means it's only about 80% Yamaha

Yami powerhead/gears - the rest is Merc. Great motor built using the same powerhead as the 90 horse - one of only 2 conventional two strokes still in production at Merc. The 90's are almost legendary now for their overall durability - one of Merc's all time best designs...

This means that alot of parts are still in production (because save the carbs, the 75/90's can swap parts back and forth)..."

"Thanks Graham for getting bac

"Thanks Graham for getting back to me. Is there a lot involved in changing this to a 90? Maybe I should restate that, can it be done?

Thanks, Jim"

"Yes, it can be done, but coul

"Yes, it can be done, but could be expensive - need 3 carbs.

The on boat performance difference between the 75 and the 90 would only be something in order of 3 or 4 mph at top end under perfect conditions - so personally don't think it's worth it - plus the motor has "lived it's life" as a 75 horse so far and all the moving parts are used to those particular stresses - hopping it up at this point could shorten it's life..."

"Makes sense and 3 mph just is

"Makes sense and 3 mph just is not enough. Thanks for all the help guys I really appreciate it. Now to go out and have some fun!

Later, Jim"
