I have a Mariner 15 four strok

I have a Mariner 15 four stroke L/S Bigfoot on my 22' river cruiser.

When the engine is switched off there is a slight oil or petrol slick which spreads around the shaft and then floats away. The prop seal area shows no sign of an oil leak.

Could there be traces of unburnt fuel coming from the underwater exhaust ? Is this normal for an outboard ?

Comments from those who know would be appreciated as I am a little perplexed by it !!

"Im no expert but as far as I know to shut off the engine you are turning off the power to the sparkplugs. The engine will likely turn over a few times before coming to rest after turning it off, in which time it will not be burning the fuel and just spitting it out the exhaust causing an oil slick."
