"Need help w/ a trim problem on my 1993 Mariner 115hp outboard

The hydrolic trim will not move up or down. There is a slight clicking when I try to adjust the height, but no movement. Over the past few days this has gradually gotten worse and now it no longer moves up or down.

How do we manually disengage the hydrolic trim system? Its currently stuck in the up position and we can't start the motor until its down.

If thats not possible, how do we completely remove the trim motor?

Help...July 4th is around the corner!"

"It sounds more like you have a problem with a bad trim soleniod (or bad wiring).

Find the solenoid and try jumping the main posts - if you get some movement out of your trim motor, then you know what the problem is..."

"We tried jumping the solenoid and didn't much more than a slight buzz.

We need to lower the motor (for now), but can't figure out how to override the hydrolic trim. Any ideas?"

What kind of shape is your bat

What kind of shape is your battery in? That's almost sounding like a "lack of power"...

"There is however, a manual release plug. It should be on the outside of the transom bracket (on the part hanging out the back of the boat.

If you look about 3/4 of the way down to the bottom - smack in the middle - should be a bolt with a slot in it (so it can also take a screwdriver).

Believe it may be on the right hand side if you are behind the motor.

Anyhow, by backing this out 3 or 4 turns your motor should come down. But be careful - sometimes it decides to come down rather quickly..."

"We unscrewed a plastic slotted screw to the right of the motor and nothing happened.

As I stood behind the boat it as 3/4 down on the right...almost at the bottom.

Nothing came down? Any other ides, or were we turning the wrong screw?"

It sounds like you have the right screw - it's usually on the same side that hydrolic hose goes in on (at the top of the bracket).

The motor may also have a tilt-lock (to keep it locked up for trailering etc) - check to make sure this isn't engaged...
