Marathon 1996 15 hp

I once heard that the horsepower of my 1996 Mercury Marathon 15 can be increased by changing the main jet.

If this is possible, can anyone tell me which carburetor jet should be used for the replacement?

I'm rebuilding the carb and would like to order the gasket kit and the jet at the same time.

Many thanks.

Re: Marathon 15

I once heard the moon was made of cheese.

Unfortunately both "stories" are fiction.

The 15 Marathon and it's sister the Sea Pro still only used the 16 cubic inch block - the same as the (normal) 15 and the post-94 9.9 horse models.

So it's already squeezing just about every horse out of the block already.

A new pair of sparkplugs every year and fresh gas at every outing will do more for your performance than trying to tweak out an extra horse.

To see a 15% increase in top end you would have to squeeze almost 8 more horses out of the block.

The only way that is possible is to sell it and hang a 25 in its place....
