I bought a back up 10 SI 3 wire delco alternator several years ago as a back up the my mando altenators. This weekend I had to replace one of the mando's. When searching the web looking for an alternator years ago for the back up, various sites said the 10 SI is a sub for the mando. So the mando has four wires, The 12 volt out, the field, an output for dash gauges, and an output for the electric choke on the carb.
The 10 SI has a 12 volt out, a field, and an idiot light out. Alternator put out 14.5 volts. With the engine off, the alternator got and stayed warm. Checked wiring and ensured the filed was connected correctly.
Ended up removing and ordering a new mando. Does anyone know any different about sub'ing a delco 10 SI for a mando on a Searay with electric choke and dash gauge hook up.
