I am replacing distributors on my Marinette, it came from factory with E/I, I need help wiring to the ignition module. I have seen other posts that have eliminated the ballast resistor.

The ignition module is inside the Mallory units and does not need a ballast resistor. Take a volt meter and locare the 12 volt end of the balast resistor (ingition ON). Connect the Mallory here and toss out the rest of the Chrysler wiring.

What kind of coil do I need to get, NAPA has asked if I want one for a system with an internal resistor or external resistor. I don't want to ruin my new distributors. I think someone put a car coil on motors. Always had trouble.

Thanks for your help.

Can you clarify E/I for us?
What was existing, and which new Mallory ignitions are you going with?

Thats Electronic Ignition.......Rick!! and Mallory only offers the YLM579 which will cause him headache if he has a counterrotation engine

Apparently the YLM579AV works for either LH (std rotation) or RH (REV rotation) engines.
This has to do with the camshaft drive gear cut, and distributor driven gear cut.

golden515, I think that this would be a good choice in that these are VR triggering.
This is a tried and proven technology, and initally by Chrysler Corp in the early 70's.
Mallory has done a nice job at adapting VR technology into the Marine world, IMO, be it for Ford, GM or Chrysler.
