"Hello all, This weekend I have planned to do seirra carb kits 18-7000 and do the Pertronix install with a Flame Thrower coil. The boat does run fine now. But my question is should I install the Pertronix first, then rebuild the carbs and set the flow with the UNI SYN, or vice versa.

Thanks all input is greatly appreciated"

"Hello Thomas,

"Hello Thomas,
I've just installed the Hot-Spark electronic ignition module knowing that I would anyway need to re build the Solex 44PAI carbs later on. Prior to rebuilding the carbs, the engine ran reasonably well to allow me to install the Hot-Spark and set the timing with some degree of accuracy. I will fine tune everything after the carbs have been re installed. I have some pictures of the Solex in the dismantled condition if you need to have a look.
Incidentally, BFIC Fuel Systems of (1617 W. Magnolia Burbank CA 91506 USA)http://www.carbsonly.com/index/faqs.htm
can supply a single Weber carb and manifold to replace the old Solex units. I have attached some pictures that I have recieved from them:

"I did the Pertronix, and WOW

"I did the Pertronix, and WOW a whole differant peice of machinery. I have decided not to do the carb kits, right now, as the ignition has made a termendous change in the way the boat starts and rev's. I cant belive how a person could not have this system.

The one question I have is about setting up the carbs. I used the UNI-SYN, and followed the instructions of both it and the Seloc. But I cannot have the bubble in the middle (as the UNI-SYN say's), I have to have them at the top of the lower mark to keep the idle at spec. have I done something wrong or missed anything. ??"

"Hey Lawrence, I tried to open

"Hey Lawrence, I tried to open your Doc1.doc without any luck. I've found that the AQ151 engines were equipped with more than one model of pa441 cabs and the difference seems to be the base. On carb #s 61186 the air/fuel screw is similar to fig. 14 on page 4-15 of the seloc manual in that is screws straight into the carb without a spring. However, I believe that the bases having the adjusting screw joining the body at an angle and incorporating a spring are completely exchangeable with the former. Further, the 7000 series of carb rebuild kit needle/seat is not compatible with the original found in the 61186 carb. The threads are the same but the seal between the two does not seem right. Anyway fwiw

Tom"
