maintenance requirements?

New to this forum and new to owning a 4 stroke motor so at this point I'm not embarrassed to ask even "basic" questions. :)
I saw the following info on another thread regarding regular maintenance and have a question:

ALWAYS use FRESH, QUALITY, fuel.

Drain your carb for any layup longer than a few days.

Change the oil and filter ON TIME.

Maintain the cooling system. IE: new water pump KIT (not just impeller) AT LEAST every third season.
New thermostat every 3-4 seasons.

Fresh NGK plugs every other season to protect the coils

Change gear oil "regularly" as in once a season or so.

Check/adjust valve lash every other season.

New timing belt at 10 years.

MY QUESTION: Does my BF25A have a thermostat & does it serve the same purpose as the thermostat in my car engine?

Basic questions are good. It is easier to come up with the answers.

Yes and yes. The thermostat allows the engine to get to operating temperature in order to operate efficiently.

If you do not have an owner's manual, you can download one for free from Honda http://marine.honda.com/support/manuals

Just pick one based on your motor and serial number.

It will list the maintenance requirements and how to do the basics.
