Maintenance Free Battery

I just read on a reply to someone's thread that there is a chance if a maintenance free battery is used it could cause stator problems. Is that true. I bought one from the marina last year. Is it ok to use. It is on a 1977 Johnson 115HP. Thank you.

I won't have one down in FL here. With all the heat they like to dry out to fast. My regular batteries which I can add water to seem to use quite a bit. JMHO.

You can use a maintenance free battery as long as your running high amp draw appliances. Keep the voltage below 15 volts and the charging system will not overheat at high rpm. One of those refrigerated ice chests is a nice addition for keeping stuff cold as well. It is true the stator can also short internally and cook the ignition system as well.
