MFS9.8A3S.Hit something while trolling today.Motor seemed to run ok back to the
launch.Got it on the trailer and checking for any damage.Found that the prop
would turn when in forward, would not turn in reverse.Any ideas what i screwed
up.
Thanks.

Explain how it turns in " forward "------------------turns one way and not the other way ??----does it " ratchet " ??

The clutch dog in the MFS9.8A3 has tapered lugs on the forward side. This allows an easy shift into forward. If you are finding that the prop freewheels in neutral, is locked when in reverse, and can be turned by hand in forward (with a clicking ratcheting sound), that is normal. In fact, on sail applications, if the motor is shut down in forward, the prop can turn while sailing, causing a clicking sound from the LU. If, on the other hand, the prop freewheels in forward, you likely have a damaged clutch dog and/or gears.

Thanks Paul.
What you described is what the motor is doing.Thought i might have blown the LU.
Thanks again.
Jack.
