Lower Unit Shifter Assembly Stuck

I have a 2006 Evinrude E-Tec L2 lower unit I'm rebuilding. When I pulled the propeller shaft out of the housing, the shifter assembly did not come with it. I made sure to push the shift rod all the way down so that it was in reverse. I've tried pulling on the bearing edges with a hammer slide but it will not budge. I've never had this happen before. It usually just slides out with the propeller shaft. Any suggestions how to get it out?

Resolved. I was able to hook the linkage on the end of the propeller shaft back up to the linkage in the shift housing. I had the clutch removed from the propeller shaft, but I had the retaining pin back in the slot holding the shifter shaft in place. That gave me enough play to us the propeller shaft as a slide hammer. The shifter housing popped out.
