Lower unit replacement

I bought a 74 evinrude 35 hp from a buddy who took me out on it several times before the purchase. I did everything wrong. Added gas with no oil. I dont know the oil ratio. Motor locked up and he pulled me in. Added oil and the motor sounds good, but i guess i was kikn it in gear too high throttle. Now the lower unit is in a bind and when i attempt to put in fwd it dies. This model has a solid cast lower unit so i cant open. What year and what horsepower is interchangeable with mine? Motor sounds good. I have no boating experince. Help me get it running plz

check compression on the engine before you do anything else....if the lower unit had oil in it when you ran it then this is probably not the immediate problem.....

In this case you need to give proper information !----There was no 35 HP model listed for 74 model year.---------76 maybe --picture ?--Model # is required.-----That gearcase will come apart for inspection as well.

+1 on do not do anything without checking the compression first and start looking for a good powerhead. the ratio is 50:1

I got the lower unit off... It was seized up. I got it loose. Gears move not sure if that was it
