" Is there a process to test a lower unit at home or do I need a dealer? I have a 1987 Johnson GT 150 that may have a leaking seal. I just purchased the boat and they guy said he just had the lower unit re-done. When I changed the fluid just to be safe it was milky.

Thanks, Mike

Sorry for posting on top of another article earlier. "

"Mike.... You can do that test

"Mike.... You can do that test yourself if you have a air compressor. Drain the unit, then apply 7 to 12 pounds of air pressure to either the drain or oil level hole.

A rag covering the hole with a air nozzle forced into it will do the trick.

If a leak excists, you should be able to hear and/or see it.
