"OK heres the question, has anyone or does anyone know if the Wallmart brand API 80-90W GL5 lower unit oil can be used in a MerCruiser lower unit? It sell for about $3.50 a quart approx 1/3 of the Mercruiser oil, there is also a 75/90 synthectic oil? I read the bottle on the 80/90 W and it said anti foaming, good for differentials etc, however it did not say anything concerning marine use. Whats your thoughts on this?"

Maybe that's why it's $3.50/qt. There are other marine rated 80/90 wt. gear oils; look for them.
 
Should stay with marine rated

Should stay with marine rated gear oils. It is rare to find anything fromj Wallyworld that is not junk!
