"On the skeg, there is a large regular slotted screw. This is the drain screw hole.

Further up the lower unit, there is an identical screw. This is the oil level screw hole.

Fill from the bottom drain hole until it flows from the top oil level hole (not vice versa).

If they exist on any lower unit, DO NOT touch a philips screw on a allen screw. One retains a internal shift lever, the other retains the lower pinion bearing."

"Buy the correct lube for your lower unit then
First remove the top screw
Then remove the lower screw (drain) check oil for water or metal shavings etc, the presence of either is clear indication of a problem that needs to be address.
Wipe clean both screws and replace the O rings (any marine stores sells it)
Evinrude likes you to use the squeezable bottle with a tip and force oil up from the bottom hole this will flush all air out the top hole. Quickly insert the bottom plug and wipe clean check for leaks.
Spin the prop by hand this will flush out any air pockets inside if any.
Finally squeeze some oil in via the top hole to top off your fill (do not over fill) oil should be draining out the top hole just a little indicating a correct fill
Insert and torque both screws and you are set."
