what is the recommended oil to go into the lower unit?, and also-- the same question for the reverse gear.

The boat has a closed system for the block, if set correctly with anti-freeze, this should protect the block entirely, The fresh water side is for the heat exchanger and manifolds, for these I plan to mix 50/50 and run the boat in order to suck it up through the hose to the lower unit fresh water pick up.

Will this cover my powertrain units from freezing??

I am a newer boater, any help would be appreciated.

"Why would you mix RV anti-freeze? It's cheap enough that it's not worth risking a freeze-up. Use ONLY RV anti-freeze in the raw water cooling system.

What do you mean, 'reverse gear'? The forward and reverse gears are in the lower gearcase. The upper and lower halves are connected and use the same oil.

If you plan to do any amount of work on the boat, get a service manual for the motor and drive."
