So what happened was. I was getting some water in the drive. I decided to reseal the carrier bearing housing since it was easy to get to.
I broke the carrier getting the seals out. The carrier section that broke was where the seal near the prop. Put seals in it and some jb weld on the broke part.
After about 200 hours on it started getting a lot of water in it.
So I found a new carrier bearing housing went to change it. I pulled the prop and found what I thought was fishing line. I have misplaced the line that I took out.
Today I go to change the housing and noticed the rubber in the seals was gone. The prop shaft is toast worn down around 1 mm and the prop is worn down where it meets the drive. I have been on the water close to 20 years and had seen fishing line damage but nothing like this!
I know yamaha has a thrust washer to help keep line out but, What is the best was to keep this from happening again?
