"i have a evinrude 225 1993. i need help or info on how to disassemble my lower unit to replace the clutch dog. cannot figure out which step will be the first. i am thinking the hud assembly needs to come out first which will need a special tool to remove it,if so where can i find the tool? can you give me some pointers and steps of disassemble my lower unit?"

"Just out of curiosity, how did you figure out that you needed to replace the clutch dog?

No offense intended, but from your question I believe I'd recommend leaving your gearcase repair to an "expert"! There are a LOT of parts involved in tearing one down to get to the dog ... and they all have to go back in correctly positioned for it to work correctly. Not to mention the probable need to replace all the seals ... and possibly new shims!

"none taken. i trouble shot it by info from a lower unit specalist and a marine mech,also from past post from here from joe to other people.[adjusting the cable,where the shifter needs to be ect] i have gotten as far as trying to get the drive shaft out. thats where i am having trouble i cannot get it out. how do i pull the drive shaft and gear out so that the prop shaft and dog,ect will come out? the info i got was correct the shoulders are rounding."
 
"Unscrew the pinion nut, but l

"Unscrew the pinion nut, but leave it on a couple of threads. Then loosen/take out the screws for the upper drive shaft bearing carrier. Shift into neutral. Put a wedge between the clutch dog and pinion nut so it is tight. Give the prop shaft a short knock upwards. That normally looses the pinion from the shaft.

If the dog clutch dogs are rounded have a good look at forward gear as dogs may be rounded as well and its a good time to reseal the gear box as its all pulled down
