I was able to remove the nut o

I was able to remove the nut on the bottom end of the drive shaft but the gear is wedged onto the shaft very well. What is a good way to get that gear off of the drive shaft.

It came right off of my practice lower unit but this one is giving me a hard time.

Please help............Greg

"Greg,

That is a very commo

"Greg,

That is a very common problem, but usually can be dealt with easily.

Sometimes, simply holding the shaft, and tapping the top of the gearcase with a 2x4 piece of wood does the trick. Sometimes it takes a bit more force than that. You could heat the gear a bit too.

If there is a bearing or seal housing on the top of the gearcase, you have to remove it first.
