lower unit disassembly

I have a 1988 johnson 50hp and I'm trying to get the lower unit apart. I can not figure out how to get the bearing housing out of the casing. That's the housing that holds the prop shaft. I took the three bolts from the inside and it appears to just slip out but it has been in there so long it's corroded and stuck. Does it take a special tool? I'm afraid I'll break it. Or does anyone have a good lower unit?

I got the lower. PM me if interested. Yeah, they stick real bad. You need a bearing carrier puller. Various types exist....maybe you can make one.

Use a slide hammer with a steel rod that has a hook on the business end.

What year model of lower unit do you have, what shape is it in and what did it come off of?

I am going to try the time and pressure method. I just have to figure out how to rig up some straps from the wheel puller to the housing.

Although this method seems that it would be the easiest. Thanks.
