I have a 28ft carver with a 240 merc in it. When I bought the boat the shift lever when in forward full speed had to be brought back to neutral then back to forward to go forward at a slower speed and when I did that there was always a little clunk in the shifter. Well anyways I lost forward gear while on the river one day and I tried and tried end eventully It went in reverse while trying to shift into forward. Well with a lil advice from a bad friend I went and found a replacement lower unit on ebay that just had been rebuilt but when I installed it I'm have the same issues, when u look at the brass shift arm it wants to shift opp of the lowerf unit. (Forward on shift lever equals reverse on the lower unit.
Can anyone help me I'm going to be put in a padded room over this! Is it maybe the controller cable or something else. Thanks for your help! Waiting patiently in wi.
