"I have a '85 4 cyl Mercury 50HP (Classic 50, I believe) that is missing its lower unit. I am attempting to find a compatible replacement. What years/horsepower Mercury lower units will fit my rig? I have heard 35-50 HP from '74 to '89 will work, as long as the drive shaft remains at 20". Is this true?"
